Understanding the IELTS Exam

IELTS practice

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world’s leading English language test for higher education, migration, and global career opportunities. Recognized by over 11,000 organizations across 140 countries, including prestigious universities, employers, and immigration authorities, IELTS provides a reliable assessment of your English language proficiency.

The test is designed to evaluate all aspects of your English communication skills through four key modules: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Available in two formats – Academic and General Training – IELTS adapts to your specific goals:

  • IELTS Academic: Ideal for those planning to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels, or seeking professional registration in an English-speaking country. This version focuses on academic language and analytical thinking skills.

  • IELTS General Training: Perfect for those planning to migrate to English-speaking countries, or seeking work experience or training programs abroad. This version focuses on everyday English and workplace communication skills.

Your IELTS score is reported on a unique 9-band scale, with each band corresponding to a level of English competency, from non-user (band 1) to expert user (band 9). Most universities and organizations typically require a band score between 6.0 and 7.5, depending on your field of study or professional requirements.
