About the OET Exam

The Occupational English Test (OET) is an internationally recognized English language test specifically designed for healthcare professionals. It assesses your ability to communicate effectively in medical contexts across four key areas: Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening. Required Scores:

Doctors: Minimum Grade B (350-440) in all components
Nurses: Minimum Grade B (350-440) with minimum C+ (300-340) in Writing

Speaking

Two role-plays based on healthcare scenarios
• 3-minute preparation time for each role-play
• 5-minute conversation with interlocutor

Writing

Duration: 45 minutes
• One professional letter based on case notes
• Usually a referral or discharge letter

Reading

Duration: 60 minutes
• Part A: 15 minutes - Quick scanning tasks
• Part B: 45 minutes - In-depth comprehension

Listening

Duration: 50 minutes
• Part A: Consultation extracts (24-25 questions)
• Part B: Healthcare workplace talks (1-2 minutes each)
• Part C: Healthcare professional talks (5 minutes each)
